Conscious Fathers’ Day Gift Ideas
Eco + Conscious Living, Gift Ideas
Everyone gifts differently for Fathers day. For some it’s small gifts, others a simple heartfelt card, and for others it’s a day for bigger gifts. However we gift for any…
I’m here to make conscious, thoughtful holiday shopping a bit simpler, and more fun! Each year I LOVE putting together these lists! I fall in love with my favourite companies all over again as I write to help you shop the way I would, just without the stress of having to think of options yourself. I make these lists from companies, products and people we have experience with rather than just ideas that look wonderful. I research hugely before I buy anything and I really believe in the power of where we spend and how we gift in the power that it has to do good, so here are some ideas for those in the UK to help you shop.
This can be a great option for a lower budget, getting more for your money, or just embracing the value of not buying new! I like to search ethically producing brands still (I got Jared a Nudies black jacket last year and it was such a win!) and I search things like patagonia, ABLE, Veja, Sezane for fun pieces at a fraction of the cost! If you’re worried about it being used you can search for things “new with tags” and there are still some real bargains, but I just embrace going second hand and write a note explainging the value behind it in terms of the planet and ethics, then I think it can be really thoughtful. For kids we also love lego bundles used from eBay!
We do this a lot with my family! For my sisters birthday I took her on a wine tour, and for another sister and brother in law we all agreed to do no gifting but go on a really nice double date dinner together. Both were so special! You could do this as a gift voucher for them to use, an invitation to go together, or all deciding together to do something in lieu of gifts.
I love doing a date night gift basket for a couple or a family! A jar of un popped bulk popcorn (really budget friendly but feels nice, fun and pretty as a gift – this is a bulk organic one), some chocolate or a bottle of wine or another drink, and an iTunes gift card for a movie. You could keep this on the budget end or adjust for any budget. Go to charity shops and buy a basket, search out some fun mugs and include hot chocolate mix, add another gift card for door dash, buy socks for them to put on for the movie, or add in a voucher for you do babysit kids if you have that relationship. It takes a bit of creativity but can work out really well for a thoughtful family gift on a budget. Especially good with kids of various ages if you don’t know what to gift and want the ease of giving one gift!
I’m a whisky girl, and this is my kind of distillery. They’re doing everything I want to see in a business. Every bottle is certified organic, made in a verified carbon neutral distillery and bottled in a 100% recycled glass bottle. It has a compostable natural cork stopper, a recycled paper gift tube, the feed the draff from making to cows and spread pot ale on the ground as fertiliser, and send nothing to landfill. And then it’s delicious.
A good catch all brand for dad, mother in law, kids pajamas, so many options there. Boden has been around in the UK for ever and lots of people don’t know it’s a more ethical clothing brand! You can read about their factories, and commitment to nothing going to landfill HERE. Did you know they give you a £4 credit when you send back a used item?!
Maybe I’m old, maybe I’m a mum.. but these are on my christmas list and I’m so exciting about having more for my kitchen! They’re SO useful, and they’re safer than plastic as well as longer lasting. They last forever but if silicon does end up in landfill/oceans it doesn’t break down to harmful micro plastics making it safer from start to finish. Buy one and fill it with a few things for a teacher gift, pair with a recipes book for a bigger gift – so many ways to make it fun!
I’m in love with this hand cream. It’s got bakuchiol (bio-retinol) in it to help with skin renewal and aging which I’ve never seen in a hand cream. And it’s made with organic and safe ingredients all in a sugar cane, plastic free tube. The cuticle oil you can buy it with is fun and great but not as life changing as the hand cream. But the extra turns it into a full gift! Highly highly recommend one for you and some for gifting!
Cotopaxi is a fantastic ethical brand that guarantees its products for life. I’ve been eyeing this bumbag for years and a friend has it – it’s wonderful. I wanted to go used and couldn’t find it used so I went for the Patagonia one below but this one would make a beautiful thoughtful gift!
I grab this daily! Phone, lip balm, car keys, out the door. Perfect for throwing over my shoulder for the school run, playground or a weekend hike! This is a slightly lighter thinner bag but a great size for a few things on the go. I’ve used it ALL the time since I got it and adore it!
Salt doesn’t need to come from far away. I love this refillable ceramic pot that turns local salt into a fab gift. The pastel pink ceramic jar is painted with the rugged Welsh coastline of Llanddwyn where the salt comes from. And comes with a mini wooden salt scoop! Good salt is so easy to find in England yet so much of it comes from so far away. The large crystals of Halen Môn’s purest white sea salt, harvested from the Anglesey sea and rich with tangy oceanic flavours.
In our quest to eat more locally salt is one thing that’s changed and I love buying from small family producers like this one!
Someone you know needs this gift! This is SUCH a beautiful piece to customize and gift. Perfect for a parent with the places their children live, the coordinates of an event, or a statement about who someone is. “Gigi’s Market Bag.”
It’s also one they can send quickly so a last minute option too if you need one!
These are my Christmas present to myself! We both have their Chelsea boots and LOVE THEM but these are on my list for everyday life. They’re classic, gorgeous and so well made. I’ve had the Lori bag for 5 years as my “diaper bag” and it’s perfect and timeless. Nisolo is a beautiful B Corp brand where everything is made ethically and to be long lasting which is another major factor in waste creation. And you have to check out their Ethical Marketplace too – it will take care of so much of your holiday shopped list!
Can you gift a cleaner? I’m going to say yes, yes you can. And yes I have. For the person who loves a clean home but also a healthy natural fragrance from essential oils, biodegradable packaging, only one bottle ever cos it gets refilled. Refills that ship without water to use the least fuel possible. And a pretty bottle you’ll want in your bathroom and kitchen… at a great little price. Oh and a female founded B corp.
Now you know why it’s on the list. I love mine.
We love this earthy B corp clothing brand and they have a number of things that would make GREAT gifts. Their collab with DAME period products, a well priced wet bag for ocean adventurers, and a collection with RNLI where 10% of the profits go. I love this wool beanie, the boots socks, and organic cotton hankie.
Maybe more of a summer item but a PERFECT gift and throw in a bottle of wine. We got these in the summer and have used them… a lot. If you know people who picnic with wine? Take wine to the pool? Hike with drinks?! They’re perfect. And bonus they have a magnetic close on the top so they can take a little bit of real life! Pair a couple with a bottle of wine for a GREAT couple gift! Another B Corp we love.
Ok, I know sourdough was very 2020 for lots of people but it’s also for everyday bread baking to save money! The recipes in here are my every day go to for a perfect loaf and they’re easy to follow which not all sourdough recipes are!
This one will sort your home cook family member, creative friend, baker, it’s an essential for taking bread baking to the next level. You could pair it with some dried sourdough starter and it’s an EPIC gift! Or the Tartine book I use for all my sourdough.
I’m excited about these. Fragrance is a minefield. Most are made with artificial fragrance ingredients, often derived from oil (non renewable resources) and those are linked to many potential health concerns. These beautiful ones are fully plant derived, and natural, making them free from those health concerns and a fantastic gift! I think these could even be split up to make beautiful mini gifts for a girls group, book club or little teacher gifts. Pop one in a mug with chocolate or another little item!
Yep, in 2019 I was asked to write a book for this Green Edit series and I said yes so you could read it and gift it to everyone! But really, I wrote this for you. It’s not just a list of things to do, it’s a walk through a no judgement zone of a journey towards a more ethical sustainable home without being complicated.
This set of 6 leather coasters are from the amazing place we get our meat. It’s a “rewilded” area of land focused on reviving ecosystems, and being climate positive. The animals are engaged with minimally, and when they’re harvested, every piece of the animal is used. They’ve recently done a collaboration with Bill Amberg Studio to create
Best book I’ve read in a long time. I blew though it and loved every page from the gardening memoirs, to the dives into the socio-economic factors affecting food and eating in America.
I LOVE this UK low waste and well formulated skincare brand! Their Holiday sets are done so well, packaged beautifully and prices so well. This Radiance Heroes gift set is £34 and has two of my favourites in it – a bio-retinol face oil, and a gold bio-retinol mask. SUCH a good gift for anyone with “maturing” skin, which starts in our 20’s when it comes to skin!
Everyone needs a go to Gin right? This is ours and a favourite find since moving to England.
Made by a London cabby, with kind and personal customer service, gorgeous branding… and just great London gin.
I just got a 25kg bag of this pasta and it’s beautiful – I would 100% gift a giant paper bag of unique pasta! It’s the only organic pasta with grain grown in the UK and made into pasta on cast iron moulds here in England too. The small bags are plant plastic (not oil based) packaging that will break down in a good compost heap, with far fewer food miles than any other pasta! This would be a beautiful gift paired with whisky, wine, or a charity shop thrifted casserole dish or skillet!
Another one of these is under our tree this year! Made from cotton, and BPA and phthalate free (massive need for toys for me!) I love these B Corporation made dolls. They stand, sit, can be dressed, and have neutral expressions and no gender to dictate as little as possible and allow room for kids creativity in play. Our kids LOVE them!
Honestly one of my most given gifts this bauble! Organic certified mask with bio-retinol (one of my favourite skincare ingredients for helping maturing skin!) is such a giftable favourite!
It’s got Argan and Rosehip Oil to moisturise your skin, and Bio-Retinol to help signs of ageing without irritation or the potential irritation of retinol.
When I take the time for some self care – this is the little tool I pull out and I can’t recommend it enough. Follow @sumanskincare on instagram for amazing little videos to follow – they relax me like nothing else! Note: Some of the ingredients in the products I probably would choose for the ingredients – so I’d pair with pieces from evolve if you want to include skincare too.
Who do you know who drinks cold coffee or leaves half empty mugs around cos they’re not hot anymore? Yeah this is what they need! It’s over £100 so club together with other people to make it work and still get the epic gift! I was given this years ago and it’s the BEST gift!
A fab clean beauty brand that’s not fully available here but they always do GREAT holiday gift sets on Content Beauty! I love Ilia as a brand and all the things they are.
Three safely formulated lip products in a very giftable little set. Love.
Another BRILLIANT clean beauty set – all full size, and well formulated products from RMS. Mascara, cream highlighter and a beautiful cream eye shadow (in the metal tube.) RMS isn’t very available here for the full range but I love these little sets!
Made from a sustainable recycled plastic felt, Certified by the Global Recycle Standard, Natural rubber, non slip, flat sole, Comfortable and breathable textile insole, Ethically made in Spain.
We got their fairtrade made wool slippers for so many people last year. They’re handmade using eco friendly dyes and contain lanolin, making them resistant to moisture, grime and giving odour reduction – they’re perfect. Sancho shop has a fantastic range of ethically made and well sourced items with so many great gift ideas too!
This would be a fab gift for a mum, sister, a really beautiful gift for a friend. Anyone who loves a little bit of high end skin care and some brightening and at a really good price for 4 safely formulated products! I’m gifting this one this year!
These are a higher end option to the People tree ones, made of recycled brass and gold with a bit more detail, and a 9 ct gold bar. Free of lead, nickel and cadmium and from a black owned B corp jewellery brand at their workshop just outside of Nairobi, Kenya.
The price points on this brand are fab for gifting. As well as being everything else I want. I tried this brand in my search for UK skincare brands I love this year and it’s a fantastic brand taking waste products from use food industry and using them in simple, zero waste, vegan skincare. I put a lot of this in stockings and gifts last year! And it’s priced so well!
This kit is GENIUS, and so fun, and so meaningful. I used a CAST kit earlier this year and its so special to me! I found the middle size just right for an adult finger print!
I love the luxe look and quality of this brand – my fave for gifting! Chocolate is a great stocking stuffer, dinner party host gift, or smaller gift any time of the year but not if people are not cared for in its creation. Lucocoa is a small independent chocolate company in London making gorgeous bars of delicious chocolate, cacao deodorant, hot chocolate and gift bundles.
A life long, waste saving, handwriting enhancing friend and a great gift to ask for a receive! I like ones that have refillable cartridges rather than where you need to buy cartridges but the ones we have are adjustable and can be used for both. They come in a range of prices so they can be an heirloom larger gift or a more everyday item that still lasts forever.
I bought these for Jared’s birthday when he said “I want Vejas, but high tops.” They have a few different styles, vegan and ethically made with corn waste and bamboo! I was so happy and impressed reading about them and Jared loves them.
Plantbased dyes and plastic free packaging, this made in the UK alternative to the normal and a bit easier than making your own when you don’t want to! These come in a few colours and are hand made with British clay. And you’re helping someone compost, win win!
Sparkling water is my love language… but shipping water is not a love language for the earth and the cost is not one for the budget. So, make your own! Yes it’s pricey BUT have you added up how much you spend and the footprint of buying?! When I did this seemed WAY more affordable! A refillable cartridge (exchange via post or local store) turns tap water into perfect bubbly water in a glass bottle. AMAZING. If you buy 2 bottles of sparkling water a week on average this will pay for itself in a bit over a year without thinking about the environmental savings. Plus it’s beautiful. It’s a great gift or one to put on the list for you too!
Such a great planet friendly gift that lives on… and keeps a home healthier too! This spot is my go to for house plants, with amazing personal customer service. I’ve bought them for us and gifted them and they’re always amazing. This range of Pots and Plants gives you the plant and gorgeous pot and they deliver across the UK for really reasonable prices! The pots are made by artisans using ethically sourced materials.
Best watch company ever. They’re everything I want them to be and oh how I’ve searched for ethical watches. SEARCHED. I mean, ones that look nice. They have a higher price tag, but not a higher price tag than buying one every year because they break… These are stunning, classic, ethically made, a company built around doing social good, black owned and just a DREAM find.
They. Are. Amazing. They’re made from recycled materials stopping them going to landfill, and you can return hem them to be made into other products by Pela too when you’re done with them. Add in blue light lenses when you buy sunglasses and they’re interchangeable making it a great two in one. We’ve gifted so many of these!
We’ve absolutely gifted this! I love my safety razor and the money and waste it’s saved over the years. This one is twist on the original look and a tad more stylish looking and so more suited for gifting (it comes in a few colours!) Wearth where it’s from is again another fantastic resource for mindful, well sourced shopping so browse away!
My favourite place to buy socks to gift! They’re pretty, so comfy, made from recycled materials, and boxed up in gorgeous boxes. Honestly there’s something for everyone! Bamboo, cotton and recycled polyester, we all have Thought socks and love them! A great stocking stuffer or gift depending on who!
This pouch is a go to gift for me! And an important reminder in the judgy world of parenting. Really for kids and adults alike Gemma at Muthahoood has something for you, but the small curated selection of very thoughtful, educational and empowering gifts for kids is incredible and one I personally shop from regularly. Highly recommend. We have their GALphabet letter cards and LOVE them, as well as lots of Strong Girls Club apparel.
Women owned. Eco friendly packaging. Ethically made apparel. Find the collection HERE.
Santa brought me a few of these last year and I LOVED getting them! Organic cotton in a few colours for mending or sewing. I have about 6 colours now that span most things that need mending. The perfect gift for a low waste living friend or someone who’s moving to a slower approach to fashion.
These are the only seeds I use in the garden and they’d make a great gift! You can shop by planting month so you could buy everything needed for some spring planting or just a selection of anything! They come packaged in paper and everything is organic and open pollenated, the best! Grab a terracotta pot and add a ribbon and a few packets of seeds – fab gift!
A gift card might be a good one here – and it would make an epic lasting gift: The ultimate denim that’s really truly backed with values. Ethically made, from organic cotton, and each pair comes with free repairs for LIFE to reduce waste. They’re pricey, but not for what you’re actually getting. Nudies is a company that really cares about the impact of the clothing industry and they’re really working (and succeeding) at finding the clothing sales model with the most positive impact and we love them!
A few of these hang in my home and I adore them, as well as everything Rosanna is. Her value for the earth, and people and social justice shine through her prints in the kind of way I want hanging ALL over my walls!
The prints are on handmade Nepalese Lokta paper with non toxic inks they arrive in plastic free packaging.
We LOVE these! They’re really high quality, plastic free temporary tattoos. They’re more pricey than the cheap and plentiful ones with thousands of small tattoos, but I’d rather have fewer of these one. And the quality and art is perfect for kids and adults alike.
World of books is a B Corp that rescues books from charity shops and sells them on, they’ll be carbon neutral by next year and it’s a GREAT alternative to quickly grabbing that book on Amazon. For kids we love sticker by numbers and search and find books from them but they have a massive range for everyone with a lower footprint!
We’ve done this one for people this year and I’m excited! It’s a fantastic, highly reviewed, loved by Anthropologie and all over guided date night ideas! Or family date ideas, there are a few. It gets RAVE reviews from people where it’s turned family or couple dates around and there are different price points but we’re excited to gift them this year! They also have an Advent Calendar on my list!
Don’t be overwhelmed. Make a list, plan your budget, work out what budget you can allocate to gifts and divide it up roughly between the gifts you need to buy, the stockings, the friends and family and work out how much your’e working with in each area. Look out for sales and shop for people when you see the right things, then check them off.
Go second hand where you can for earth and budget. Or invest in well made and sourced options like the ones above!
I love a store where you can shop and know everything is a good idea that cares for people and planet. As I wrote this list I realised that really, if you browsed through the ones below you could basically cover your entire list with incredible gifts:
So browse those wonderful places, or have a look at the full list above!
