If I was Your Mother… A Gift List for the Mum Like Me.

Ok so I’m not your mum, but if I was this is the list I’d be tagging you in on Instagram.  There are 2 billion mothers around the planet, 85 million in the US and we’re all so different, so instead of an arbitrary roundup of trinkety gifts I wanted to give you the list that’s ‘me’. The list that’s low waste, organic, compostable, sustainable, consciously created and does good.

You could also consider doing an ‘ungift’, make a donation to charity and tell you mum why in a card, or give her the gift of an act of service from you, or make time to be with her, take her out for a meal or be with her for a day.

For the Eco Conscious Flower Lover

Starting with the classic. I listened to a podcast with the founder and marked the company down as the only cut flowers I’d now send. They describe them as ‘ethically grown, honestly transparent’ and do you see that signature burlap coffee bag wrapping?! Yeah. No plastic here. And their value for the earth goes way beyond up cycled coffee bags. Read more and find all their bouquets HERE.  Tip: Put in your email on the site for 10% off!)

Mega gift for the sustainable mom.

Isn’t it stunning?! Ok this one is pricey but somehow Amour Vert got my address and now I drool over this leather jacket in their catalogue every time. Sustainable leather jackets are impossible to find for under 4 digits so when I found this I was so excited. I haven’t bought it though cos I don’t need it, so I just drool – and tell you. It’s all recycled leather and it’s a company truly and transparently rooted in sustainability and ethics, to the core. (Check their jumpsuits too, and Veja sneakers – I own two pairs and adore them.) Tip: Sign up for emails to get 15%-20% off your first order or check for them on Poshmark for extra eco points with mom.

For the non-toxic product loving mom

*psst, my personal WINNER*

*shop by Tuesday for Mothers Day shipping* This is the overnight resurfacing peel I swear by to really brighten and smooth dull skin, but without the bad stuff. Honestly, I don’t buy fancy products. I’ll definitely spend more for health and good food just not ‘extras’ for pampering. But my skin needed help last year post 2018 colic, bad sleep, newborn life… it just looked dull like never before – even with good food and water and more sleep. So I splurged. I’ve been using it twice a week for 5 months now and I can tell you it makes a massive difference. This gets my personal recommendation that it was worth the $40 I spent on it. Especially as it’s still going strong 5 months later. Get it HERE  or for a bigger gift get the Instant Awakening Trio with eye pads and illuminating cream for a real at home facial situation! Tip: If you want to get your mom into clean products, mother’s day gifting can be a great way to start without making a big deal of it!

The Mom Bag Reimagined for the Mom-To-Be

Don’t google ‘diaper bag’. Cos you don’t have to throw away your bag style with parenthood. Course not. The trick: don’t get a ‘diaper bag’, get a regular NICE bag, and use it for diapers. Or whatever you carry with you. I fill mine with Stasher Bags and other small zip up bags to separate things. Get the bag on everlane.com HERE. You can also see a range of things we have and love for baby and baby life in my Clean Living Baby Shower Gift Guide.

For every mom:

A Personalized Gift (15% sale on now!)

I love ABLE for creating great pieces made ‘by women who have overcome’ here in the US. They have bags, clothes, shoes, and more but I love their jewelry the most. I LOVE and own this necklace with a little circle for each of my kid’s initials. So special. Get it (and shop the rest of the site!) HERE and also get 20% off your first order by signing up for their emails!

For the self care needing mama

Ok that’s every mom, no? But I just bought this for myself to add to my skincare routine. It’s supposed to improve circulation, lift and tighten skin, remove stagnation in the skin, and help even out fine lines so yeah, I’m in. You can look up Gua She facial massage but I recommend following Britta Beauty on instagram to see how a Gua Sha expert does it! Find it HERE at my favourite Package Free Shop – You can sign up to their newsletter for 10% off or I have some coupons from shopping with them that give $10 off $40 so email me and I’ll forward them to the first people who email saying you want them!

A Classic Non Toxic Lippy

*shop by Tuesday for Mothers Day shipping* Lipstick is the thing for me that draws the line between down-in-the-dirt mum days, and feeling like a more civilized human being (and for the second, I love both kinds of days!). Sometimes I don’t take a shower and lipstick makes me feel like I stepped into a new world. BUT I don’t want or need chemicals to do that. This one in Girls’ Night color from Beautycounter is my favourite safer, cleaner, happier lippy and the colour I have in my makeup bag. I get tons of DMs about it when I’m wearing it and I love it. Get it here! (And you can choose a free sample when you check out – I highly recommend choosing the resurfacing peel and adding it into your gift!)

For the clean, organic wine loving mom

This is motherhood, and this really is the only wine I drink. (And then once a month I put TJs organic charles shaw in chili cos I can’t put a $30 bottle in chili, sorry.) After I read about wine and what goes into it – think something like HFCS from grapes, parts of fish, other nasties – I quit drinking it. Then Secco popped up with vegan, dry farmed, organic, no added sugar, delicious wines that are well sourced from small family farms and ship monthly to my door… I started drinking again. We get 3 bottles a month but you can buy a one off bottle from the site too. We loved the La Caturra Organic red that’s $25.99 but we haven’t had a bottle we didn’t love.

For the Eco Chocolate Lover Mum

It’s expensive chocolate. Not gonna lie. $30 for 3 bars. It’s also divine, raw, organic, vegan, and comes in recyclable paper and compostable ‘plastic’ wrapping. My kind of bar. It’s not your standard chocolate so I recommend this for the superfoodie, health food, already crunchy mums. They’ll be in love with it. And it only just landed in the States so if you’re stateside you might be introducing them to their new love. I first tasted this when someone brought me the Salted Caramel one all the way from Australia and oh HELLO. It’s delish. Read more about their sustainability amazingness HERE. Get it HERE on Amazon or it’s now at Wholefoods and various other places too.

Options for the coffee loving Mom

(click pics for links!) Jared just bought me this Miir mug (but a Patagonia version not this pretty Copper) and I LOVE it. We needed an extra to go cup now Clayt gets drinks too which is the only reason I let him buy it for me cos I love my keep cup! But you know, I think I prefer the Miir one. It keeps my coffee hot but still has a great drinking experience, I’m weird about the feel of drinking from to go cups but this one passes.  I love having a handle, and highly recommend it. Ok and number two the Ember, I’ve never tried it but it feels like the ultimate mom gift. I don’t usually put things on lists from companies I don’t know, love and have tried but I see other people rave about it so I just had to include it cos… it’s keeps your coffee hot at the temp you choose and you can control it from an app are you kidding me?! The Miir comes in at $30 and the Ember at $80, you know which one I’d spend my money on but I kind of want to vicariously live through you purchasing the Ember, k?

For The Conscious Shoe Lover

Jared’s first mothers day gift to me was shoes and I still have and love them. It’s like, hey I know you’re more than a mum, I value who you are – here’s a gift just like it’s your birthday, but for Mothers’ Day. That’s the dream, right?! Also, these are the dream. Definitely a pricier pair but for good reason, Everlane is transparent about where their products are made which I love. If you want something in this vein but less pricy look at their ‘Choose What You Pay’ section – their version of a sale. But these shoes… Get them on Everlane.com HERE. (your first order ships free and then any 2+ item order has free shipping too!)

A Non Toxic Manicure

Total pampering, sans nasty chemicals. TenOverTen is my fave brand of non toxic nail polish and if your mum lives in LA, New York City, or Austin you can get her a gift certificate to go to one of their stores and get the full experience. If (like me!) you don’t and she doesn’t… you can still get your hands on their great nail polish via Amazon HERE. And did you know their stores use leftover nail polish to create paint for industrial painting?! You can even take your old jars in to add to the recycling effort. Love it.
