Produce Box

This week has been like Christmas.  If you’ve been around me for more than five minutes we will have talked about my new love affair, the produce box.  I’m in heaven.  With a summer change in work schedule, the first thing on my agenda was to sign up for our local produce box scheme with Abundant Harvest Organics.  I’ve wanted to do it for a while but haven’t been able to make it to the drop off with work.  So hello summer schedule and hello veg box adventure.

In our journey of eating clean, finding foods that are organic and local are two things we try to do wherever as we can.  Obviously budget and convenience play into how much we can do but this glorious box is as organic, seasonal and local as it gets without your own farm – and given that our yard is the size of the keyboard on which I’m typing, we won’t be growing much of our own food yet!

As I stood, still in the parking lot, looking wondrously at my first produce box I was simultaneously filling my face with sweet fresh cherries and dreaming of the things I could make with the contents. (Admittedly, I also had google ready for a few things I didn’t even know the name of…). Well this week the little box has been my best friend.  It’s inspired me, taught me, and pushed us both to cook and eat some new things as well as go without some of our staples that aren’t actually in season.  Already I can’t wait to pick up my next box, rummage through and start creating.  And I thought each week I’d let you in on what the box became, t0 show you we did with our box of goodies!

You’ll be able to find my produce box adventures here each week on the ‘Our Thoughts’ tab at the top of the page.
