I’m on social media sabbatical! ✌️ If you’ I’m on social media sabbatical! ✌️ If you’re new here, welcome - I’m just not here right now! 😆 Read my previous post to see why I’m making this move and I’ll be back in the fall. Right now though, hit the highlight in my profile 👉 @thewholefooddiary to see the places you’ll find me while I’m not here! There are also some FAQ links there too for while I’m gone. I’ll be dropping into your inbox later today with a little video too so say hi over there! (And hit that highlight if you want me dropping in your inbox!) ❤️

Well friends, this girl is taking a social media s Well friends, this girl is taking a social media sabbatical! It’s been on the horizon for a while and I feel 100% nerves + excitement making it real. But as we hit the last holiday before sending 2 kids to school, it's happening!

I’m not at all stepping back from working - I’m the bread winner for our family which honestly makes this a little scary - but I’m pulling this insta window shut.

There are many reasons but the one I come back to is: I’ve never been a mother without social media. I’ve never known this role without a phone in hand. And I want to. For years I shared 3+ photos a day, and when my first baby was 1 stories rolled out, and I’ve walked through life with “content glasses” on. I want to know myself without those glasses. I want to give time to what other good might fill that space.
.
I’ve also found myself change a lot as a mother. Social media is a beautiful outlet and job I LOVE getting to do, but it wasn't my life goal. 😆 So as parenting stretches me, with more demands on my time, it makes me question each piece more scrupulously. What do I want to not be with my kids for? .
.
After adding my affiliate role with Beautycounter 4 years ago (a CA based clean skincare + makeup brand, who also work in advocacy ensuring safer products are available to everyone - a job I ADORE!) that part of my life has expanded and much of that work is off social and I’ll still be doing it! I’ve found that work off this app is work I can do well while preserving my emotional capacity a little better, and that’s a currency I’m coming to protect more diligently.

If we were getting coffee we’d talk more about emotional capacity 😅 but I’m learning that some areas of life, like social media, have at times sapped the emotional capacity I want to save for my family. What used to feel like agile movement between one thing + the next in life has come to feel like whiplash for my emotional capacity, and I need to change that!

So in the next week I’m going to sign off, move to bits on the blog and sharing a bit more on email instead, and I’ll still very much be in my Beautycounter world - but just with a closed window on this app for a while. Stay tuned. x

Our daily visit from Felix the peasant. Likely one Our daily visit from Felix the peasant. Likely one of the 13%. Did you know close to 50 million (yep 50 million) pheasants are released each year in the U.K. for hunting? About 46% are estimated to die before the end of the hunting season from non hunting causes (a lot more than would if they had been born wild, also considering the deaths that happen pre release), 42% meet their intended fate, and 13% survive… Hi Felix. 👋
.
It raises a lot of questions on waste, money, effects on ecosystems and ethics but for now, we’ll just feed Felix sunflower seeds. 🌻
Skillet pizza rolls, a fun twist on our Friday nig Skillet pizza rolls, a fun twist on our Friday night go to! 🍕 Crust: 3 cups spelt flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp yeast, 1.5 cups warm water. Mix it all together and knead about 5-10 minutes until it’s nice and elastic.
.
Roll it out to about 18-24” wide and 12” long (away from you). Add a thin layer of sauce, cheese and any other toppings you want. Then carefully roll it along the long side away from you, rolling tightly. Use cotton under the roll to slice through the rolls carefully. About 12 rolls. Place them cut side up in a 10” skillet. Leave them on the counter to rise about 1 hour or until doubled in size then into a 180°C oven for 30-40 minutes until cooked through - pull one out to test and see it’s cooked through.
.
Serve it with a cheese sauce over the top, or with more cheese and pop back in the over to melt it!
.
Enjoy! Happy Friday, and Happy Fathers Day weekend! 🍕

A snapshot of our 🔟 year anniversary trip to Ha A snapshot of our 🔟 year anniversary trip to Hampshire, UK! I mostly made this little video for us I think, I didn’t want to leave - even with our third wheel.👶🏻😆 We stayed at the @fourseasons Hampshire in Dogmersfield which was beautiful, exceptionally child friendly, so peaceful and a massive treat! It was relaxed down time, slow meals, gym trips, garden wanders, canal walks, baby dinner time in the bar while we ate appetisers, room service dinners, slow morning coffees while she napped. The biggest treat. On our last day we got to eat at Marle at @heckfield_place which was a DREAM - it was awarded a new Green Michelin @michelinguide star in 2020 and I was so excited to go (but we’ll save that for another day!)
.
Budget + Full disclosure: we’ve never - and still wouldn’t have - chosen such a pricey hotel 😆 we’re budgeters and to us hotels are not a splurge place - even for a big occasion. We value being together more than pricey hotels and we value a good well sourced food truck meal or grocery store finds over an expensive-just-for-the-sake-of-fancy restaurant every time. We chose this hotel because I earned a Four Seasons gift voucher through working with Beautycounter in 2021 and we travelled early cos they had a 3 days for 2 offer 😏 Even though it’s our 10th anniversary we stayed close to home to not travel which is honestly my dream: Less travel. No flying. Explore close to home. 👏 We did mega splash out to visit a restaurant newly awarded a Green Michelin star for lunch but overall we didn’t spend the money it looks like we spent which I think it important to note when it’s not something we’ve actually paid for - lifestyles on insta can be conveyed misleadingly and I don’t want that! We probably would have done a one or two night Airbnb somewhere close too if we were paying!
How we cloth diaper (the cheapest way possible!) P How we cloth diaper (the cheapest way possible!) Part 1: Choosing the system.

Closure: Snaps vs Velcro - I’ve found snaps live way way longer through multiple kids or for resale. My covers have seen 5 years of use and look new! Snaps are also quieter for changes when baby is sleeping. 😴
.
The system: I choose a two piece system of thin covers (@thirstiesinc are my faves) and then a simple cotton pre-fold insert. We’ll look at fitting them in another video but they’re the cheapest to buy, then they take up the least space of all kinds which is great in a small house. Thin also means more diapers in one load of laundry (less expense) and less drying time which is helpful but also cheaper if you use a drier.
.
You can also use the cover through a few changes before it needs washing so less expense in the first place as you don’t need to buy so many.
.
They’re less simple for someone new to cloth, or for other people changing your child who aren’t familiar with it. So I think having a few all in ones can be a good idea if you might have other people needing to change your baby!
